Christmas performances

There is a distinctly Cornish flavour to our celebrations this year combining many Cornish carols and Charles Causley poems. The children have begun to learn the carols and this year the Junior pupils will be taking the leading parts as the story of the Nativity unfolds. However all children are included and can choose to dress as Victorians, shepherds or angels - hopefully this will come as quite a relief to parents who like me used to dread the making of the costume!

Christmas Fair

Friday 8th December
Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the fun to support the Home School Association who raise funds on behalf of the school so that all children can benefit in so many ways. There will be stalls, games, a raffle and refreshments...all contributions welcomed. Help to set up and particularly clear away is greatly appreciated thank you so much in anticipation!

Blue Peter Appeal

This year, this popular programme has launched an appeal for shoes that are no longer wanted. Do you have any old shoes gathering dust at the bottom of the wardrobe? Have your feet outgrown your shoes? Blue Peter want to raise £500,000 to set up Children's Corners in twenty two Malawi villages and so reach thousands of children, many of whom are orphaned or have life threatening illnesses.
The school is acting as a collection point so if you would like to help please send in pairs of shoes either tied or with an elastic band around them. All sorts of shoes are needed - boots, sandals, trainers etc. Please do not send in shoes that need repairing.

Children in Need

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed in anyway to make this day such a success. We raised £173.07 - wonderful.

School Lunches

From the beginning of this week, the servery has come into being, with school dinners arriving from St Teath. The catering team have informed us that they will be advertising for a cook to be based at our school shortly. The quality of the food our children eat is crucial to their development and well being. So is there a parent who is a good cook, looking for a job that fits in with the school holidays - if so this could be an opportunity for you. Apparently no previous experience is required as training is given.

Saint Mabena Day!

18th November is Saint Mabena day. She was born c.AD 474 and died aged 76 on 18th November 550 allegedly trampled by a cow!
She was one of 24 children of Brychan Brycheiniog and his wife Gwladys, a large number of his children became saints.
She lived as a hermitress possibly at Treveglos [church farm] which was a group of buildings beyond the farm now with the same name on the St Tudy road.

Children in Need

Children in Need - Friday 17th November
The children really enjoy this day of fun activities. Ideas for fund raising have been suggested by pupils through the School Council. The children can donate £1 to wear non uniform and this year between 2.00 - 3.00pm there will be stalls in the Village Hall organised and run by the children which will include games and items to sell. Anyone who would like to bake biscuits or small cakes for the tuck shop on that day would be really popular and much appreciated!

Anti bullying week

Anti Bullying week is 20th—24th November
We are very proud of the children who behave so well in our school and on the whole playtimes are friendly times. However we do not ignore bullying issues and twelve months ago the Governors, staff and School Council signed the anti - bullying charter. So during this week the children will be exploring the issues around bullying and bringing home a booklet to share with parents. Please look out for these in the book bags.

School Lunches

Unfortunately the cook is no longer being employed in our kitchen and we have been asked to operate as a servery for the time being. Cooked meals will be provided by St Kew and delivered to our school. Despite menu changes being discussed at a meeting with representatives of the H.S.A. and Commercial Catering the number of children eating school lunches has dropped considerably. This is often a trend in the Summer Term and then numbers usually increase in the Autumn once again. However this has not been the case this year. This makes staffing the kitchen costly and its viability is being considered by Commercial Catering.

Request for jam jars

We have received a request from Mrs Hyde for jam jars with screw top lids in preparation for the fete. So please recycle any unwanted jam jars at our school - thank you.

Parent Governor vacancy.

Disappointingly we have not received any nomination papers at all for this vacancy.. However we really do need to have another Parent Governor. Sometimes the paperwork that has to be sent out can seem being a Parent Governor is a rather daunting prospect but most Governors really enjoy the position. Please reconsider and let us know if you would like to take this opportunity to be more involved in the life of the school - thank you.
