Blotting ink

Class 2 tried writing with quill pens and ink. They found that it smudged and ran so they experimented with blotting it. A powder called pounce was used in the past to blot ink. They experimented with sand, salt, talc and blotting paper. The finest powder or blotting paper worked best,

Post office visit

Some children from class 1 visited the post office to find out all about posting letters. Katie was allowed into the postoffice to sell a stamp to her friends.

Class 2 experimented with polystyrene prints as part of their project to create their own books.

Anna Murphy showed the children her notebooks and story boxes before taking them for a walk to create their own story.

The children found a silver key and a golden egg on their walk. They wove them into a story that they created as they walked around the church.

Tony Minion came to school to explain to parents how our joint St Mabyn and St Tudy banner had been created. Then he unveiled the completed banner for everyone to see.

St Mabyn walk

Class 1 children went for a walk around St Mabyn and decided which houses various fairytale characters might live in.

Class 2 are investigating the history of writing, printing and books. They looked at old books and ancient manuscripts.

Class 1 are starting the term by looking at traditional fairytales and reading The Jolly Postman.

Classes 2 and 3 sang and played their instruments as part of the Christmas concert.
